- indoles and isothiocyanates may protect against colon cancer. They are found in broccili, brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, kale, bok choy and rutabaga.
- isoflavones such as genistein may offset the effects of estrogen in breast and ovarion cancer. They are found in syobean products.
- limonene helps produce enzymes that in turn get rid of cancer causing substances. They are found in citrus fruits
- allicin, the chemical that gives garlic and onions their typical odor, reduces blood cholesterol and blood pressure
- phytosterols may help prevent colon cancer and prevent cholesterol absorption from foods. They are found mainly in soybeans
